One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish

Apparently I'm an overzealous feminist.

Huh.

And, oddly enough, it wasn't a guy who called me this. It was April, as we were having a discussion about porn.

What confuses me about April is that she labels herself a feminist, but then she goes on to conform to what is expected of women traditionally, and gives in to patriarchy. And earlier today she called my roommate's boyfriend a "pussy", insinuating that he is weak like a woman and lacks masculinity. Isn't feminism about abolishing this sort of thing?

My favourite feminist quote is "Have you ever wondered why we are not just in armed combat against you? It’s not because there’s a shortage of kitchen knives in this country. It is because we believe in your humanity, against all the evidence.”.

And then April went on to say that society is never going to change, and men will always be in charge.

What the fuck?

Obviously, with that attitude, yes men will continue to dominate. It can't change unless people try...and I mean people, not just women.

Quite possibly the best compliment I've gotten is "bitch". Bitch refers to a woman who is outspoken, opinionated, and stands up for what they believe in. Gee, does that really sound so bad? I think not.

I've also been called a man hater, which is far from the truth. I'm waiting for someone to just come out and tell me that I'll "never get a man with that attitude!". I see people thinking it. Why would I want to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't share my viewpoint? Why would I want to be involved with someone who doesn't understand what I believe in?

Oi.

Yes, I am feminist. Yes, I am going to be outspoken about my beliefs. I chose a hard road to take, and I'm ready for the trip.
