After wearing glasses for ten years I decided to switch to contacts. I wanted to walk in the rain, snow, sleet, hail, and other random Canadian weather, wear regular sunglasses, not have to worry about smudges and smears...and the the list goes on...

So Tuesday morning I went for my "fitting". The doctor inserted them, then let me loose until after lunch.

I ended up walking home [which is a good 45 minutes from the eye doctor's office] partly because I was too cheap to pay cab fare and also because it was very odd seeing with contacts. Things are a helluva lot bigger than I thought, I must say.

Seeing myself in the mirror for the first time was weird. I've only seen myself with glasses, since in order to see myself without I have to get about 3" away from the mirror, so everything's distorted anyways.

Random observations:

~* My God, I've got hobbit feet minus the fur! Jesus, I didn't realize they were that big.

~* I have a large forehead.

~* I now know why people couldn't understand why I keep my computer screen resolution at 800 x 600.

I sure didn't think there would be that much of a difference, but there is. Things are slightly wonkey because my perscription isn't as strong as it should be, but I can see better with these lenses than I could with my glasses.

Then Tuesday afternoon I went back so I could be shown how to take them out and put them in. I'm starting to master it now, but yesterday it took 40 minutes to get the stupid things in, and another 40 to get them out later. I had to babysit early this morning so I didn't even attempt to put them in until I came home.

The only problem I've been having is dry eyes, so I've been using eye drops every five minutes. Mmm, sweet burning relief!

Wow, you know your life is incredibly unexciting when you ramble on about your contacts.
