In the words of of a Fiona Apple song I remember from my lost youth, I've been a bad, bad girl.
Except I haven't been careless with a delicate man, I went to Chapters online. I suppose that equals being careless with a delicate credit balance, but I'll ignore it. Whilst shopping around I could hear my father's voice in the background, warning me that I have to be careful with my line of credit. While chances are I won't run out of money this year [unlike last year], it's the fact that I have to pay the loan off over the next 4 years. But for the meantime, I don't care.
It started out that I wanted Blackbird House, Alice Hoffman's latest. I was in a Coles a few days ago, but they didn't have it. And then it was so cheap online...then I thought, hey, if I order $20 worth more, I'll get free shipping! Damned free shipping, it kills me.
I headed over to the bargain pages, where I discovered Fast Girls. It sounds sort of like Naomi Wolf's Promiscuities, which I absolutely lurrrved.
Alas that only brought my total up $5, so I still needed more. I read The Eyre Affair over the summer, and had forgotten that Jasper Fforde has been writing more in the Tuesday Next series. So, I added Lost in a Good Book to my shopping cart.
Still being about $2 short, I needed yet another book. Oh drat, I had to find another one to complete my order. And so, I found L.M. Montgomery's Kilmeny of the Orchard to create my final total of $43.
I felt mildy guilty as I sent my order through, but only mildly. Sure I had bought three books the other day, but they don't count! I got Bram Stoker's Dracula, Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, and a collection of Victorian and Edwardian ghost stories. Being back to school time, the Wordsworth classics editions were out on the shelf, and I can never resist their cheap literary goodness.
Mmm, new book smell.
