The guy across the aisle and I look at each other, brows furrowed and cursing under our breath.
//Jesus, we pay enough in tuition!//
//I know! This hasn't happened before!//
The train ticket man [conductor? Do trains still have them?] had looked at each of us in turn, angry look on his as he told guy-across-the-aisle and I that since we didn't have ISIC cards he'd have to come back and charge us the full adult fair. For me, this meant an extra $35 for one way.
Guy-across-the-aisle and I settle uneasily back into our respective seats, waiting for the ticket man to come back. At some point I fell asleep, hunched forward because the guy next to me was taking up the arm rest, and when I awoke the ticket man was standing beside me, mumbling something and looking very cross.
//Mumblemumblemumble...MERRY CHRISTMAS...mumblemumblemumble...//
I was beyond groggy and turned to guy-across-the-aisle and looked at him quizzically.
//I guess we don't have to pay!//
Sweet.

dude- it totally tells you you need one of the ISIC cards when you look at the fine print for the VIA student price. but score for not having to pay- just be prepared on the way back to ottawa.
Yeah, I know. When I've taken the train previously I've never been asked to show it. Enh, my parents are paying me back for the train ticket, so it's not a big deal.
