Woo! Interview's done, and I think it went well. I wasn't told how many people actually applied for the position, but I was told "a lot", and they shortlisted it to 6 for interviews. So between Bellan and I, we have a 1 in 3 chance of getting it.
On the way home we stopped in Lucan, to drive past the Black Donnelly homestead. I've always been interested in this nugget of Canadian history and had never been before. For those who don't know, from Wikipedia:
Black Donnellys is the common nickname of the Donnelly family, a family that emigrated from County Tipperary, Ireland, to Canada about 1845-1846, and who participated in a notorious feud in Biddulph Township, Ontario. Biddulph Township contains the village of Lucan, a location forever linked with this feud.
Overview here, more in depth website here.
Since the house was burned down the night the family was murdered, there isn't really anything to see except the house that's there now. We also stopped by the cemetary to see the tombstone, which was covered in flowers and coins. According to the website above, you're supposed to make a wish as you leave a coin and the Donnellys will grant it. According to my dad, if you leave a coin on the tombstone all your debts will be paid off. He told Bellan and I that for a long time people in the area believed the Donnellys to be evil and not victims. His grandfather grew up near Lucan, and my dad remembers seeing the fear in his eyes whenever his grandfather spoke of the family. This would have been in the 50's, awhile before this myth was dispelled.
Let's hope my wish was granted!
